East Central District Rifle Association (ECDRA)

East Central District Rifle Club (Violet Town) is a non-incorporated club operating under the rules of the East Central District Rifle Association (Inc). The Victorian Rifle Association (VRA) and in turn the National Rifle Association of Australia (NRAA) are peak bodies. The NRAA is a member of the International Confederation of Full-bore Rifle Associations (ICFRA) who control the international sport. The rifle range is located at 5 Bushy Lane Violet Town VIC 3669, at the Violet Town Shooting Sports Facility (VTSSF). The Violet Town rifle range has been in existence since 1888, and moved from the original location to the current location in 1980 when the Hume Freeway was duplicated at Violet Town. Please note that the VTSSF is also home to the Euroa Clay Target Club (an ACTA affiliated club), but is a separate entity operating on different days. The rifle range has facilities for "full bore" shooting disciplines conducted under the Standard Shooting Rules (SSRs) of the NRAA. The club has a majority of members shooting F Open, F Standard and Hunter/Sporter classes, although all categories of shooting under the SSRs may be accommodated. Classic Rifle events (.303 SMLE) are held periodically. Please note that at present these SSRs do not include rifles with a calibre exceeding 8mm. Electronic targets are available for scoring shooting at 100 yds, 200 yds, 300 yds, 500 yds and 600 yds. Paper targets are available for .22RF shooting at 100 yds and shorter distances as required. The rifle range has disabled access for all facilities except for 600 yds and 200 yds shooting positions. This includes permanent shooting benches for shooters unable to shoot in the prone position, and disabled accessible toilets. Visitors are welcome. Visitors intending to "come and try" the sport are most welcome, but are requested to make an appointment first. Individuals in the region who use firearms for occupational purposes are always made welcome to take advantage of the range for safe and informed testing and adjustment of their rifles, but please again, advise your intention to attend in advance through the club email address or through members who may be known to you as your neighbours.
